우리는 사물을 본다. 그러나 그 사물들 사이를 채우고 있는 것은 보지 못한다. 빛이 지나가는 자리, 존재와 존재 사이에 놓인 보이지 않는 결. 나는 오래전부터 그 사이의 공간이 궁금했다. 아무것도 없는 듯 보이지만, 실은 모든 것을 잇고 떠받치고 있는 그 바탕.

Aether는 그 보이지 않는 것에 대한 작업이다. 나는 형상 그 자체보다, 형상과 형상 사이에 흐르는 것을 붙잡으려 했다. 보이지 않기에 없다고 여겨지지만, 오히려 보이지 않기 때문에 모든 것을 가능하게 하는 것 — 빛을 실어 나르고, 어둠과 빛을, 존재와 부재를 잇는 그 결.

보는 각도에 따라 살아 움직이는 이 이미지들 속에서, 나는 근원에서 영원으로 건너가는 길목에 놓인 보이지 않는 다리를 그린다. 우리가 통과해 왔고, 언젠가 다시 돌아갈 그 사이의 자리를.

We see things. But we never see what fills the space between them — the place where light passes, the unseen grain that lies between one existence and another. For a long time I have wondered about that in-between space: seemingly empty, yet in truth binding and holding up everything.

Aether is a work about that invisible thing. More than the forms themselves, I wanted to hold what flows between them. What is taken for nothing because it cannot be seen — and yet, precisely because it cannot be seen, makes everything possible: the grain that carries light, that joins darkness to light, presence to absence.

Within these images that come alive as the angle shifts, I draw an unseen bridge laid on the passage from the origin to eternity — the in-between place we have passed through, and to which one day we shall return.
